This work deals with time and the perceptible traces it leaves behind. Landon uses the technology characteristic of the video medium to imitate the work created by time. In effect, the treatment of the electronic signal already blurs the quality of the image and sound.
To achieve his goal, the artist relies mainly on architecture because it is at once monumental and exposed to the work of time. In this case, it represents the contradiction inherent in the eternal, which is never equal to its beginning.
This bilingual video also exposes a particular relation to languages. The original French text, excerpted from Robbe-Grillet is heard and not seen; therefore, it is volatile. Its English translation, however, fills the screen and in this fashion takes over time...
Vidéo sur le temps et les traces laissées sur les choses. Paul Landon recourt à la technologie propre au medium pour mimer l'oeuvre du temps. Effectivement, le traitement du signal électronique y estompe, déjà, la définition de l'image et du son.
L'architecture, à la fois monumentale et soumise au travail du temps, symbolise ici le paradoxe de l'éternel, jamais égal au premier moment.
Ce vidéo bilingue révèle également un rapport particulier de l'auteur aux langues: d'une part, le texte original français de Robbe-Grillet y est seulement entendu, donc plus éphémère; en envahissant l'écran, la traduction anglaise s'approprie, d'autre part, le temps et l'espace d'être lue...
