Jerungdu is an experimental tape which examines sex roles. A second level of information is incorporated in the form of a "science program" about black holes and the origin of the universe. A question is asked - "is this science or fiction?" Belief systems are juggled, sex role stereotyping is pulled apart, the Beaver experiences homosexual panic while his mother solves domestic problems, and a science lecture becomes a metaphor for modern relationships.

"Thematic elements trace a continuity to previous work: soap-operatic portrayals of nuclear couples in crisis; representations of science (especially old sci-fi B-clicks, or in this case simulations of a space orbiting capsule); a gay subtext emerging from the oppressive heterosexual context; multiple narratives that partially overlap. In conversation, Balser admitted to editing together three autonomous video scripts which he felt wouldn’t sustain themselves on their own. The results. A highly idiosyncratic, elegant collage of inferred connections and implied bridges between four overlapping elements.

1. Scenes from Leave It To Beaver
2. A woman, stuck in the kitchen, attempts a Mildred Pearce type liberation through self-employment, and ultimately fails.
3. Voice-over mediations on the impossibility of comprehending infinity, the beginning or the end of the universe.
4. An ethnographic text describing the hierarchical sexual practices of a Sambian tribe, where boys at age seven are segregated from the women and initiated unto sex with older, unmarried men. Ritualized blow jibs are deemed necessary for the boys to start producing their own sperm or ‘Jerungdu’. "
