"If someone offered you complete blindness, would you take them up on that offer? Obviously not." writes Adam Johnson in a painful letter to his mother. Adam is a young blind writer with an offer to get an operation that will bring his sight back. He is faced with the biggest decision of his life, and it brings to surface certain emotions he never knew he had. He is happy the way he is, in the only world he's ever known. Black Swan is a thought-provoking and educational piece that makes you question the obvious.
Visually, Black Swan offers a wide range of different elements. The images are mainly black and white, with carefully placed swirls of video feedback that bring the viewer into the mind of the character, and serve as flowing segues between scenes. High contrast Super8 footage is used to emphasize powerful emotions felt by the character. Shots flow together mainly with dissolves, the lighting is all natural, and the camera movement is minimal.
