Treatments - Adventures in AIDS & Media is a comedic work~a humorous, autobiographical video. Autobiographically, it reviews and rewrites my projects as a media artist who has worked alternatively within the conflicting agendas of community-based groups, government agencies, arts institutions, as well as cable and broadcast television. Treatments takes place simultaneously in the past, present and in cyberspace. It is about compromise and regret, mainstream media and artistic license, anger and laughter, closure. Treatments traces the process of negotiating cultural and aesthetic territories with both mainstream and alternative media workers, some of whom make strange and disconcerting efforts to censor, exploit and sabotage the truth of people living with AIDS. Treatments is a magical mystery cybertour that moves freely from one narrative strand to the next, using the writer's point of view as continuity.
