Perhaps mining is the perfect metaphor to describe Modernism. From the earth came the fuels and ores that drove the Industrial Revolution and created the Modern age. The act of mining the earth demands an adversarial stance, setting mankind in opposition to nature. This video is an exploration into that relationship, using footage shot during the decade the artist spent underground as a miner.
