"Oyate Iglukinipi" examines the struggle of the Sioux generation that came of age in the '70s and '80s to redefine the nation's identity. This Public TV broadcast video presents the bicultural conflicts implicit within Lakota society. Beginning with the 1990 Big Foot Memorial Ride, Fulfilling The Vision addresses contemporary socioeconomic issues, spirituality and traditional wisdom - aspects symbolic of a rekindled sense of cultural awareness. The work depicts Lakota spirituality as expressed in the Vision Quest and Sun Dance, and boldly states the lessons that Lakota world view has to offer Indians and non-Indians alike. Powerful anecdotal stories, as related by Duane Hollow Horn Bear, Alex White Plume and Albert White Hat help breathe new life into the vision.
