Indian Having Coffee with Kerouac, Ginsberg and Hemingway

James A. Luna

1998, 23:00 minutes, colour, English

The title of this work is the essence of this work.
I wanted to say, "What do men talk about when they are having "coffee" and/or what do Indian men talk about when their having a "cold" one. I also opted for this title because it would get the audience's attention and these writers are also personal cultural heroes and pop culture icons.
There's a line from a performance that I do that I think best explains this work: "When we Indians get together and have a "frosty" one, we talk about LOVE, we talk about the GOVERNMENT, we talk about the REZ, we talk about YOU."

"Though this video was somewhat staged for the camera, I think it is the closest that I could get to as to what we do when stimulated by a little 'coffee' and have a tribal chat. I use the word 'coffee' in the title to get away from the words 'booze' and to protect the innocent."
