Mother Ireland

1988, 52:00 minutes, colour, English

TAPECODE 9482

Mother Ireland explores the development and use of images and music which personify Ireland as a woman in Irish culture and nationalism. It examines the historical tensions between the development of the Women's Movement in Ireland and the nationalist struggle against British rule. Not only do we discover the unrecorded role of women in Irish history, but are witness to the key role they play in today's divided Ireland.
Includes interviews with members of the Cumann na mBan and IRA member Mairéad Farrell.
