Shot in sumptuous black and white, Letters from R is a character study depicting a man convalescing in a health sanatorium. He writes to his lover about fame and adulation, their respective mothers, his symptoms and incidents he experiences during the course of his stay. Smartly written, funny and poignant, the film movingly represents the crisis of a neurotic as both particular and universal.
