TAPECODE 3005.00

For many years, Inuit women have had to suffer the pain and indignity of being torn from their families in order to give birth. Citing the lack of local facilities, the authorities fly pregnant women to Southern hospitals where traditional birthing practices have either been discouraged or completely ignored. The situation is changing slowly with the reintroduction of midwifery to some parts of the Arctic.
This documentary has excellent interviews with traditional midwives about their experiences.
