1991, 30:00 minutes

TAPECODE 9760

This video talks to several women about their experience caregiving for a loved one who suffered from Alzheimer disease. Faced with the option of institutionalizing their loved one, each of these women chose to alter her home and life style in order to keep her loved one at home. Through their stories, the viewer is able to get a sense of the typical behavioral changes and symptoms people face as the disease progresses. We also hear from Dr. Nigel Harrison, a psychiatrist who counsels people whose lives are disrupted by Alzheimer disease, and we meet Maude, who is in the middle stages of Alzheimer disease. Maude's daughter Margaret shows us how she has altered her home to make it safer for Maude to live there. The tape is designed to offer those faced with caregiving advice on what to expect and how to cope with a devastating disease.
