Aesthetics/Anaesthetics (after Susan Buck-Morss)
2014, 05:00 minutes, black and white, English
Using text and repetition, this video piece— which can be screened or used as a projection in the context of an installation— reflects on the tension between aesthetics and anaesthetics. This might be the tension between being sensually attuned and awake versus numbing one’s self and tuning out; it might also refer specifically to the inner conflict that an artist faces when they continue to make the decision to make art and to be an artist who is attuned to the complicated, multi-sensorial realities of the world.
