Louis Taylor

Louis Taylor has worked in the film industry as an associate and co-producer, actor, dancer, writer, assistant director, casting director and script consultant.

He began his artistic career in 1980 as a student at Les Ballet Jazz de Montreal in Toronto. He went on to study ballet at The Royal Winnipeg Ballet and Les Grand Ballet Canadiens and danced with Pacific Ballet Theatre (the ascendant of Ballet B.C.) and Les Ballet Jazz de Montréal as well as freelancing in Toronto. He began acting in 1988 and continues to pursue a theatre and film career. He became interested in the arts/culture arena in the early 90's and in 1992 created Artists Networking Together (ANT), an association of people of colour in the performing arts industry. He has been a leading figure on the Toronto grassroots Film/Theatre arts scene ever since.

In 1994 he developed an interest in producing and writing and was taken on as associate producer on Inside Stories III, a 13 episode series of half hour dramas produced by Paul de Silva's Jenfilms and previously aired on the CBC and Vision TV. In 1996, on discovering his partner's pregnancy, he began writing Esther, Baby & Me. It became a huge festival hit and screened at over 20 festivals. You Are Evil, his second film, was one of only 4 Canadian films to be selected for the 60th Mostra Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica (Venice Film Festival). He is the first Black Canadian to screen there. He recently finished production on his third short film Moloch. Presently he is developing his own theatre and film projects as a director/writer/producer/performer and making ends meet as an assistant director.

In 2000 he wrote, directed, performed in and co-produced the multi award winning film
Esther, Baby & Me , a 20 minute, comedic docudrama on his journey toward fatherhood.
