Born in 1979 in Tehran, Iran. Roya Akbari is working in photography, video, installation, and film. She migrated to Canada in 2003, and she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography from Emily Carr University of Art and design in Vancouver and Masters of Visual Studies in studio from University of Toronto.
Akbari has exhibited in galleries, artist-run centers and international film festivals such as Centre A, and 221A artist-run centre in Vancouver, Etemad Gallery in Tehran, Flying Broom International Womenʼs Film Festival in Turkey, Brussels International Women’s Film Festival in Brussels, Edinburgh International Film Festival in Scotland, Bristol Radical Film Festival in UK, Fribourg International Film Festival in Switzerland, University of California (UCLA) in US, and Cinema South International Film Festival in Israel.
Roya Akbari’s latest artwork, a short documentary essay called Only Image Remains had its International Premiere at Edinburgh International Film Festival in Scotland, and will be screened at TIFF Cinematheque in Toronto and FIFF in Fribourg, Switzerland in March 2015.
