Brian Kent Gotro

Brian Kent Gotro is a digital pixel manipulator...

Primarily working in installation, single-channel video and web art, Gotro has exhibited in galleries, at festivals, on electronic billboards, and online.

Gotro's work activates territory that is sometimes personal, sometimes political, sometimes serious and sometimes comedic. Showing his work at various sites and in various contexts his practice has developed parallel to his interest in using both traditional and nontraditional spaces for art exhibition.

Currently based in Toronto, he has exhibited in Moscow, Berlin, Hong Kong, Oslo, New York, Toronto, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Calgary, and (in his hometown of) Kelowna, B.C.

Parallel to his artistic practice, Gotro has worked extensively within his local arts community. He served as Board Vice President for ON MAIN Gallery in Vancouver, and was the Technical Coordinator at Vtape in Toronto. He also works with various artists in the realization of their artwork, and serves as a general facilitator of creative action.

Before moving to Toronto in July 2012, Gotro had worked as Head Studio Assistant at Paul Wong Projects and as Lead Digitizer for the Activating The Archives project at grunt gallery in Vancouver.

Back in 2002, Brian was hired as the first Media Project Coordinator for the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art. Under this initiative, he was instrumental in developing the Okanagan Valley’s first access centre for artist-video production. Graduating in 2000, he earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree at O.U.C. (now U.B.C. Okanagan).
