Atefeh Khademolreza


Atefeh Khademolreza (born in Iran in 1983) is a graduate of the University of SOOREH with a BA Degree in Cinema Directing. With over 15 years of international filmmaking experience, she had the privilege of learning from the legendary Abbas Kiarostami.

Atefeh tells stories that explore themes of women, immigration, and identity, especially how we navigate the complexities of culture and belonging. Her work blends different styles, often mixing animation and live-action, and she is passionate about creating bold, unique experiences for viewers.

Atefeh's films have been featured at many festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where her short animated documentary METEOR premiered in 2023. She was a Filmmaker-in-Residence at TIFF’s Micki Moore Residency and part of the Netflix-BANFF Diversity of Voices Pitch Program.

She is also an alumna of some fantastic programs, like the Berlinale Talent Campus (2006), Asian Film Academy (2008), Serbia Interaction Film Camp (2006, 2016), and Reelworld E20 (2019).

In addition, she is a founding member of the Association of Iranian Film and Theatre Artists Abroad (AIFTAA), an organization dedicated to supporting and amplifying the voices of Iranian artists in exile.

Atefeh has a Master’s Degree in Film Production from York University and is a proud member of the Writers Guild of Canada and the Iranian Short Film Association (ISFA).
