Melanie Goodchild is a member of the Ojibway of the Pic River First Nation, is a director, writer, producer and editor. Melanie has been involved with hands-on-training workshops in telecommunications and video production for a variety of First Nations communities throughout Canada. Her career includes one year with both the Global Television Network and the Canadian Film Centre (formerly Norman Jewison Centre for Advanced Film Studies).

Melanie is a graduate of the Resident Film Program at the International Film and Television Workshops in Rockport, Maine and has received the Broadcasters of the Future Award, the YTV National Youth Achievement Award in the category of public service, the Ontario Native Women's Association Youth Award and the Ottawa-Carleton YWCA Women of Distinction Award for Youth Leadership.
