Jack Lewis
Jack Lewis was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1955. He obtained a PhD from the University of Cape Town and was active in the struggle against apartheid, which earned him a 5-year “banning order.” He taught political economy at the University of Western Cape for 9 years before founding Idol Pictures in 1993 and the Out in Africa South African Gay and Lesbian Film Festival in 1994. In 1998 he initiated Community Media Trust where he produced and directed the HIV/AIDS TV talk show Beat It! (1999-2010) as well as numerous documentaries. He is currently completing a feature documentary titled 200 Dollars on the impact of globalization on the clothing industry in South Africa.
