Philippine-born filmmaker Lester Alfonso is a writer, photographer and video jockey whose work has appeared on CBC Newsworld, ZeD TV, Nickelodeon Asia, MySpace, Salon and TVOntario. Trying to Be Some Kind of Hero, his award-winning documentary tracing the footsteps of his missing grandfather, was an official selection for more than a dozen film festivals across North America. His newest film Twelve won the National Film Board of Canada’s Reel Diversity contest and was recently broadcast on CBC Newsworld’s The Lens. He recently won Best Cinematography for his short film This City Has Wings from the Millbrook Int'l 3min. Film Festival. In 2010, he wrote and performed a multi-media one-man play called Chapter Nowhere. He is currently developing a new non-fiction film.
