Notes on Nicaraguan Media: Video LIBRE O MORIR

by Deedee Halleck

The Independent, Nov. 1984, v. 7, no. 10, pp. 12-17

Nicaraguan video art is diverse and un-definable. 'Notes on Nicaraguan Media...' focuses on the different video factions within the Nicaraguan media centre. Due to a lack of funds and/or equipment, political and local events, etc., the various video groups focus on and cater to different audiences. From 'Cara el Pueblo's' broadcast of political debates to Mindira's focus as branch of the Agrarian Reform Ministry, video art serves more as community works than public productions. Throughout the article each group is detailed as to their goal, function and output. Throughout, many groups have received aid from outside countries, but seldom are they satisfied with stability.
