The Image of Art in Video
Les Lieux de Video, International Video Art Exhibition, 1993, pp. 43-56
Durham: United Media Arts Studies, 1993
This article focuses on many artists who translate, reference, manipulate, and/or re-contextualize well-known artworks into their films. Beginning with a film from the early 1970s, Turim exploits the practice in all its possible forms: from straight montage to installation, she discusses the many ways one can incorporate painting into video. She also addresses theoretical issues of spatial and temporal manipulation once the painting becomes film.
