Beginning with the idea of the value of performance art being as being able to encompass various media, this essay discusses the work of several women performance artists that came from the practice of dance, and outlines the history and importance of dance on the development of performance art in the 1970s to the 1980s. Important dance/art spaces like 15 Dance Lab, publications like Spill, and performance artists like Margaret Dragu are described. Documentation stills are included for several dance/art pieces.
