An Interview With Istvan Szabo
CineAction, Winter 1987, no. 11, pp. 67 - 72
Davies talks extensively with Szabo about his place in the film industry internationally. Szabo is a Middle-Eastern-European who is interested in addressing human qualities. He explores human stories from the world around him saying that "...making movies about other worlds should be left to those who know them." This philosphy seems to allow him to focus on the people he tells stories about as well as stress the importance of the actors performance. Within this focus Szabo is also interested in the human quest for security, not only within his films but in life. His process involves a very simple approach with the intentions of using this approach to communicate to an audience.
