Project/Process: An Introduction to Magnetic North
Program - Video Pool Inc., Winnipeg, Nov. Fall 2000
Jenny Lion, curator of the Magnetic North exhibition, introduces the tradition of Canadian experimental video that the program reflects in a context of American cultural imperialism and co-optation and the marginalization of Canadian art and culture. She also explores the various forces which influence the state of experimental video in Canada, including artist-run centers, a lack of critical writing, native concerns, Hollywood economics and globalization. Lion also talks about specific projects that received funding from the Canada Council and early narrative works.
