Video's Second Link

by Barb Leckie

Artnews, pp. 14-15

Leckie discusses the Second Link exhibition, which highlights a selection of video art from the 1980s. Leckie points out that although the exhibition "presents a cross-section of tapes providing a spectrum of considerable scope, it does not truly represent the international scene or even a common idea as to what video should be." As well, Leckie discusses video art's main problems of audience interaction and comparisons to television. Leckie states that the exibition "may not clear up the confusion regarding video art (it probably poses more questions than it answers)..."
