Northern Light: Video and the Avant-Garde in Finland

This article surveys the video art scene in Finland and profiles some of the organizations and artists that are involved. Looking at the state of Experimental arts in Finland circa 1989 through Muu (the first organization of experimental artists in Finland). The article follows up by highlighting educational institutions such as KSL and VANHA which facilitate for up-and-coming Finnish video artists. The article focuses specifically on the Finnish video artist Marikki Hakola, and provides a short biography of her art life and her work.
