Introduction to the work of Basir Borlakov, a Russian artist who studied in Istanbul and lives in Morocco. The article briefly discusses the current concerns in the Istanbul art scene and focuses on Borlakov's work which opens up an interesting dimension by blurring the boundary between the familiar and the foreign. His works bear the mark of the ongoing transversality of geography's in proximity that possess the memory of cultural communication, both historical and contemporary.
