Documentaries show city dangers for blacks and Indians: The Arts: Television
The Globe and Mail, Aug. 14, 1997
Allemang introduces two documentaries premiered on television, the six-part series Rainmakers (Hart and Côté) about the African American urban experience, and Urban Elder (Robert S. Adams for the NFB) about the Native Canadian urban experience. Allemang makes some interesting points about the differences between these two marginalized groups, and the issues of 'homeland'. "The different responses to life's unfairness are shown with great clarity in two gentle Canadian documentaries enlivening August's dead-time."
