The Sony Visions U.S. was a contest judged by Francis Coppola, Shelly Duvall, Washington Post TV critic Tom Shales, LeVar Burton, Edward James Olmos and Laurie Anderson, awarding independent individuals working in video. The videos had to be produced in 8mm, VHS or Beta and were judged in the categories of fiction, non-fiction, experimental and music video. First prize winner for non-fiction category was student of the Art Institute of Chicago, Stashu Kybartas, for his work Danny. Kybaratas' work was a video documenting the life of friend Danny as Kybaratas' narration talks about Danny's final days in his struggle with AIDS.
