Always Working: The Aesthetic Labours of Kelly Mark
Canadian Art, Winter 2007, v. 24, no. 4, pp. 50-54
A scrutiny of Kelly Mark's practice that charts her work within the framework of conceptual art history. Heather asserts that Mark updates "first-generation conceptualist heroics" with the everyday banal into a conclusive, fully immersive synthesis of high and low culture. That "everything is potential subject matter for art" further diminishes the division of life and art while calling into question the artist's tenuous claim to ownership. The article also highlights a causal chain between artistic conceptual dematerialization and the digitalization of modern Western culture.
