Alanis Obomsawin, Abenaki singer and filmmaker, has focused her career around helping Aboriginal women living in cities. Obomsawin, who lived in an aboriginal community growing up, then moved to Trois-Rivieres where she faced much hardship. Along with her films, she has also been a leader in the aboriginal community, establishing a shelter in Montreal to further aid the subjects she has focused her career on.
