Mises A L'epreuve (Purgatories)
Two seperate articles, one written by the artist, comment on Elene Tremblay's latest collection of work. Working in Video and photography, Tremblay uses short, seamless video loops and stills of "displaced" individuals, sitting on the street, enacting postures and gestures indicative of sadness or depression. Both the artist and the reviewer outline the importance of the loop as a means of repetition; drawing attention to "the many facets of the social fact shown," which in this case is a refusal to participate in the social order set before us. Includes list of solo / group exhibitions.
