Coal-Mining Exhibit Unearthed at Everhart

by Katie Mahon

Sunday Times, Apr. 8, 1990, p. 5

King Anthracite is an exhibition of photographs and video by artist Stashu Kybartas.

The work focuses on the exploitation of workers in the coal-mining industry, particularly Lithuanian immigrants like the artist's grandfather. Many families lost members who worked in the mines and their children became orphans.

The artist uses photographs and documentary style video to re-tell the miners and their families stories of life working in the mines.
