NOW, Aug. 18, 2005, v. 24, no. 51
Film review of John Greyson's Proteus. The film concerns a relationship between a Dutch sailor and Khoi herder on Robben Island during the 18th century This story is apparently based on a 1735 sodomy trial in South Africa. The reviewer complements Greyson's use of a limited budget to make us aware of the importance of history and its contemporary echoes, as well as his attention to historical detail.
