Afghan artist, Lida Abdul, is the first representative from Afghanistan in the Venice Biennale. Abdul was born in Kabul,Afghanistan and left right before the Soviet invasion, she was then educated in the United States. Abdul's work combines Afghan cultural experience with Western formalist tradition and reflects her culturally diverse experiences. The article provides excerpts from her writings as well as interviews with the artist and a brief statement from the Commissioner and Curator of the Biennale.
