Using conventions of Hollywood Cinema, Finnish artist Salla Tykka depicts female protagonists undergoing enigmatic and defining changes in their social development, under the guise of "condensed epics." Tykka sees her work as a challenge to "traditional ways of seeing and hearing." While maintaining some allegiance to conventional cinema, Tykka's work is often referred to a extended self-portraiture with a strong emotional emphasis on its characters.
