Curator Stefan St-Laurent examines the work of Benny Nemerofsky Ramsay in the context of changing copywright laws. Currently, copywright costs far too much for artists to use without stealing the material in the first place. This act is often seen as the number one offense, paying little regard to how the material has been changed, or how little of it has been used. Even gallery spaces are requiring the signing of release forms. Nemerofsky Ramsay's work addresses these issues with imagined reworkings of non-existant work, and by condensing existing work into nonsensical final products. In the case of his cover of Madonna's Live and Tell, he re-enacts the music video on surveillance cameras around the world, drawing attention to his "crime," as well as the social climate that created it.
