Documentary Against the Grain
Afterimage, Summer 1988, v. 16, no. 1, p. 3
The Global Village Documentary Festival programs videos which use documentary as an instrument for producing and dismantling ideology. The 1998 program included 14.5 hour The Journey by Peter Watkins, which tracks the outline of the global war machine. The festival also included Who Killed Vincent Chin? by Renee Tajima and Christine Choy, which reconstructs the events around the murder of a Chinese American by two Anglo men who were Chrysler auto-plant workers. Girl Talk by Kate Davis and Alyson Denny looks at three teenage Boston women who live in various webs of sexual exploitation, and Danny by Stasiu Kybartas answers the collective mania surrounding AIDS.
