This article provides an overview of some of the international video art produced in 1989 and shown at various festivals and galleries throughout Canada. Tourangeau ultimately argues that 1989 is such a pivotal year for video art because for perhaps the first time in the history of the medium, experimental filmmakers and those interested in doing mainstream, short-fiction films are in dialogue with each other.
