by Chris Lloyd

C Magazine, Spring 2008, no. 98, pp. 7-9

A reflection on the role of patronage in the Canadian art market, highlights the recent opening of Montreal's DHC /Art gallery. Unlike the American or European art market most Canadian artists are rely on publicly funded institution such as the Canadian Art Council and hold reservations towards private patronage. Creating a bridge between publicly funded institutions and private foundations DHC/ Art finds itself in a unique position in the Canadian art market. Run by a non-profit, charitable organization DHC / Art will host a roster of international artists similar to major art institutions and museums while taking notes from artist-run centres.
