Meredith Cohen delves into the gender bending multimedia solo performance which is Atif Siddiqi's Amethyst's Universe, "an invocational ceremony to provoke your curiosity." Based on a need to escape an oppressive and flawed reality, Siddiqi, who grew up in Pakistan where his gender expression was under constant scrutiny, wrote Amethyst's Universe from cumulated dairy entries. Working with musicians and multimedia projections Siddiqi weaves in and out of a binary gender structure in a "voyage that captures the senses, spirit, and the mind."
