Bodies in Trouble: Excerpts from a new video by Maruisa Bociurkiwi

by Marusia Bociurkiwi

Matriart, Summer 1990, v. 1, no. 2, pp. 3-5

V-tape video artist Marusia Bociurkiwi publishes script excerpts from her video Bodies in Trouble, which illustrate the technical decisions employed to represent how the lesbian condition has been hijacked by conservative cultural ideologies (i.e. from policemen, right-wing protesters, and newsclippings). Bocuiurkiwi employs humorous and exclusively lesbian language, in the scripted dialogue and visual screenplay, to subvert the dual sensations of absurdity and danger upon body inspection encountered in an international border crossing. In doing so, she dares the viewer to empathize with the joys and charms of lesbian existence.
