This article reexamines the binary debates between 'colonizer' and 'colonized' and 'self' and 'other', in order to explore the mimetic interchange that often plays itself out in culture, through film and video. The author addresses the question of mimesis, drawing on debates within anthropology and from visual ethnography, and explores the ethnographic videos of Vincent Carelli in this context.
