Alex Thopmson, an aboriginal actor, is disheartened by the state of traditional theatre and longs to cultivate work closer to her aboriginal roots. This article, which appears in Aboriginal Voices magazine, is a five week account of her experience working on a project for the Center for Indigenous Theatre and held at the Banff Center of the Arts. Essentially an acting workshop, she and fellow aboriginal actors explored expressive techniques, developed narratives and shared common experiences. For Alex, the experience was a needed form of catharsis for both her artistic and cultural life.
