Smash: Reflecting Sex: Video Clips 1976-2002
Art Star 3 Video Biennal, 2007
Ottawa: Galerie SAW Gallery, 2007
A concise overview of Winston Xin's curating of Paul Wong's thirty years of video art in Smash: Reflecting Sex (2002). Tired of the commodification of queer culture in recent years, Xin compiled an anti-Pride program incorporating Wong's old and new work on death, race, and sexuality that transcends identitarian definitions. Xin believes that the remixing of Wong's work serves to reach younger and new audiences not familiar with his video legacy, but also a chance to reclaim new meaning from older works.
