Performance, Video, Texas and Beyond ...: Kinga Araya

by Ed Sinclair

Video Vogue, Winter 1999, pp. 10-11

Ed Sinclair reviews Kinga Araya's new work as the artist explores the possibilities of her thesis and the medium. An installation, performance and video artist, Araya has worked with cast-iron objects for her MFA project titled body restriction, however, this is contrasted in her new work body freedom which includes blown glass and video. At the centre of this work is a video/performance piece titled Tahoka, which Sinclair argues displays a deep need to express and explore the possibilities of space and the self especially in relation to the audience. Despite some inconsistencies Sinclair argues that the piece displays a new, independent and intimate direction for the artist.
