Mixing footage from televised airplane hijackings with propaganda films of revolutionary leaders, as well as excerpts form silent films, diplomatic training videos, airline commercials and cartoons, Dial History documents the relationship of media to terrorist acts. Reviewer Roberta Smith finds that Grimonprez suggests "not a world of competing good guys and bad guys, but of inept characters all around. "
