CBC News, 2009
This is a review of filmmaker and activist John Greyson’s new video opera, Fig Trees, which tackles what he sees as an “epidemic of complacency” within AIDS activism. Narrated by a singing albino squirrel, he uses the opera form to criticize its high culture status and attempt to make the medium socially conscious as in Gertrude Stein and Virgil Thompson’s Four Saints in Three Acts.
