Video attacks police tactics

by Michelle Melady

The Charlatan, Feb. 2, 1989

This review details videomaker Eva Manly’s . . . a few questions, a dramatization of heavy-handed tactics amongst the Canadian police. The half hour long work follows a Chilean refugee woman through a series of eight interrogations, the reasons for which only become clear as the video progresses. Manly, who has been accepted by Images ’89, aims to both disturb the placidity of those who dream “that doesn’t happen in Canada!” as well as provide an intimate portrait of one woman’s experience.
