Is it prime time yet?

by Robin F White

Prime Time Video, 1984, pp. 10 - 14

Saskatoon: Mendel Art Gallery, 1984

In the article Making Waves Bruce W. Ferguson reviews the video art show Prime Time and its relation to cultural television programming. While in 1984 there was little cultural programming aired at prime time, Ferguson writes that in the 1950 "golden age of television" networks attempted at airing dramas and other high art works. In the years after there has been little or no attempt at producing cultural works as prime time entertainment. To Ferguson, the art show Prime Time demonstrates that artists can use video to produce works that could be viewed as prime time but doubts the time slot will remain as significant as it was in the past.
